I had a dump trunk drop some rocks on me and gouge the plastic in my bumper. I had someone try to touch it up for me, but without extensive work, it looked pretty bad (photo 1#). Using the 040 white base coat, followed by the 070 white pearl, then the 00C clear coat with some sandpaper and polish, I was able to repair the damage myself. Be sure to clean the area well with Dawn soap to remove any wax. Avoid touching the chip with your fingers so you don’t introduce oils to the area. If your plastic is gouged and has raised edges like mine (it looked like teeth marks), use sandpaper to remove any raised spots. Take your time with the base coat and use the brush. The ball point on top of the bottle is useless. Just put down enough so that it’s completely white and that no metal or plastic is showing underneath or at the edges of the chip (photo #2). Once that dries, add the pearl coat. I did a few coats of that, then used 1000 and 1500 grit wet sand paper to work out any raised spots and smoothed it down (photo #3). Then I gave it one last light coat and hit it gently with 2000 grit. Once that dries, I added the clear coat. You can apply the clear coat past the edges of the chip. Once that fully dries, use 1000 grit, then 1500 grit, and finally 2000 grit wet sand paper to smooth it out. Finally, use something like Mother’s polish to bring back the shine (photo #4). Give the paint a few days to cure, then add wax. I can barely tell that I had a pair of 1/2″ gouges next to each other on the edge of my bumper.

There is a lot of misconception here how this works. If you have a paint chip/scratch all the way through (which is most of the time when we see it and want to fix it), you NEED the BASE COAT and the PEARL COAT. I have found the clear coat can be omitted without much difference with small areas. The BASE coat (040) will cover the spot. Let it cure overnight or a day in the sun (even better) before applying the PEARL coat, which yes, is watery and is supposed to be that way. I actually applied two base coats (040) to fill in the hole to almost level (carefully removing excess around the chip area and letting it cure FULLY in between coats), then finished with the pearl coat that brought it level to the surrounding area. Shortcuts do not work.I’ve done both of my Toyota Priuses (2010 and 2016) this way. Each uses the 040 Super White base coat, and each uses a different pearl coat (051 and 070). With a good technique (which takes time), few will notice the repaired spots.

The top review for this product is fairly accurate, in that you need to sand each coat and use all three colors (base white, pearl white, and then clear coat). What you need to know is that as soon as you use any sandpaper, no matter how fine and no matter how close you try to keep to the tiniest area around the chip, it’s going to look like you removed your original clear coat from around the chip and it will look really scary, like you really messed up your car’s finish. Don’t be tempted to apply clear coat to this entire area! I tried it, and while it does make the paint glossy again, you can’t apply the clear coat smoothly enough over any kind of large area with just a brush. So just put on enough clear coat to just cover any area that you painted, but not much more. Then, you MUST buy a polishing compound, and rub the entire area that was sanded with this–it WILL return the gloss to what looked like damaged original paint. I wish I had known this before I started!

Never before have I had touch-up paint that seemed watery. Shook it up and still would have thought it would have been a little thicker. Matches the paint color exactly and had to make some tactical adjustments to make it work fine.

reasonably fast shipping. the color match was good. it can take some practice to use the brush accurately.

For my 2018 highlander I followed all the steps very carefully But the color is darker than the pearl white on my car…. not very pleased with the results at all. Don’t waste your money and time you’ll only be frustrated

A bit on the ‘watery’ side. Not white enough.

Easy to touch-up with pen / brush
